Few residents exist today who could enlighten us as to what life was
like in Wilsonville in it's developing years. Emery is one of those few,
as he was born in Wilsonville in 1918 to Blanche and Henry (b. 1880, Frog
Pond) Aden. His father owned the "merchantile store" in Wilsonville.
His mother worked in the post office and his grandfather, John, was influential
in the formation of Wilsonville's first church, the "Frog Pond"
Church (known as the Meridian United Church). Emery followed in business
as the co-owner of Aden & Josi, a noted local clothier.
Emery has lived most of his life in Wilsonville, married to the former
school-secretary and is instrumental in the continued development of the
local Methodist Church. He is an active member of several local fraternal
organizations and has served in local government capacities.
No "first hand" pioneers remain to tell us what Wilsonville
was like around 1850. No "second hand" settlers are here to shed
light upon Wilsonville's growth. Wilsonville is supremely fortunate to be
able to learn from Emery, our closest source in the way things were. |
